Recently I was contacted by Heirloom Audio Productions to give a review of their audio adventures.

What! You’ve never heard of them? They are the makers behind the family audio adventure stories like Under Drake’s Flag and The Dragon and The Raven.

They asked me to review all 4 of their stories: Under Drake’s Flag, In Freedom’s Cause, With Lee in Virginia, and The Dragon and The Raven.

It was a great time for them to contact us to because we had just made plans for the summer, which included road trips!

My boys were like “I wish you had brought your laptop so we could watch the story, instead of just listening to them”, But I think that is the best part! TV offers so much visual simulation, whereas with these audio books it trains their ears to listen and pay attention.

Each story is at least 2 hours long, and where we were going would take 2-3 hours to get there and back.

So instead of listening to music from the radio which would go in and out since we were traveling through different counties and states, we could listen to the stories nonstop back and forth, without any interruptions except for rest stops.

My favorite one was “With Lee in Virginia”. Why was it my favorite?

We live in Virginia and to get to our destinations we had to travel pretty much the same way they did in the story, except we were in a car and they were on a horse, ah so much better! I can’t imagine riding a horse for 2-3 hours to get to our destination, with 2 kids, nonetheless.

It was pretty neat to go through the different cities like Richmond and then hear about it on the audio. They even mention traveling through the Chickahominy River (which is 87 miles long), but today we have a bridge to travel over it.

With Lee

Kirk Cameron has a part in this one, I know you’ve heard of him!

With Lee in Virginia

All of the stories are adventures rich with history and filled with faith. For example, it talks about Robert E. Lee and how he was torn between duty to his state and duty to his nation.

Each story has a real life adventure from history, filled with characters trying their best to live the way God wants us all to live.
